February Spotlights

Our February Spotlight focus on Strength and Balance classes that run across Hertfordshire. These classes are designed for individuals wanting to improve their strength and balance while learning some new exercises to help maintain independence.

The classes are suitable for older adults who haven't exercised before or who have started to experience a decline in their physical ability. Evidence shows that meeting The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) guidelines recommended amount of physical activity reduces the risk of hip fractures by 68%. This strength and balance programme supports people to reduce their risk of a hip fracture.

The classes last for approximately 1 hour and are delivered by Postural Stability Instructors who follow an evidence based exercise programme and they will be able to answer any questions you may have.

In our latest report on the Strength and balance classes 79% of participants report physical activity improvements as a result of attending.

If you would like to join our Strength and Balance these classes are also run in various locations across Hertfordshire, please click the link below to see the closest class to you!

Stevenage Football Club Foundation also run online classes (on Zoom) that are run in the same format as the face to face classes and cover similar movements. There is a mixture of standing and seated exercises. You will need to be able to stand for some of the session but the rest of the class you can stand or sit as much as you want, however it works for you!
