Age Friendly Tag on Moving More Helping Hertfordshire Residents Find the Right Activity, Faster

06/11/2026

Finding the right activity can be the difference between someone becoming more active and connected or feeling unsure where to start. This is why the introduction of the Age Friendly tag on the Moving More Activity Finder marks an important step forward in making physical activity opportunities more visible, accessible and relevant for older adults across Hertfordshire.

The Age Friendly tag was developed to make it quicker and easier for residents, health professionals, social prescribers, carers and family members to identify activities that are welcoming for older adults. Since its launch, Age Friendly: Live Better (AF:LB) Locality Officers have been working closely with activity providers across Hertfordshire to encourage uptake and maximise its impact where activity providers were informed about the new feature, encouraged to review and update their listings, and provided with guidance materials to support implementation.

The result has been significant and there are currently 805 activities (Oct 2026) listed under the Age Friendly tag on the Moving More Activity Finder, providing residents with an extensive range of opportunities to stay active, independent and socially connected. Activities include Hertfordshire Health Walks, Love to Dance, Flexercise, Walking Football, Pickleball, Walking Squash, Tai Chi Qigong, Seated Exercise, Social Badminton, Chair Yoga, Walking Netball, Bowls and many more.

The importance of this work is reinforced by findings from the Age Friendly Hertfordshire baseline report which gathered the views of nearly 3,000 Hertfordshire residents aged 55 and over. The research identified communication and information as one of the key priorities for improving quality of life for older adults. Many residents reported difficulties knowing where to find information about local groups, activities and support, with only 57% saying they knew where to find details about local activities and groups. Now users can filter specifically for Age Friendly activities, helping to remove one of the key barriers identified by residents: knowing what is available and where to find it.

The tag is particularly valuable for health and care professionals, social prescribers, community navigators and voluntary sector organisations who are regularly supporting residents to access local opportunities. Instead of searching multiple websites or directories, professionals can quickly identify suitable activities through a recognised Age Friendly filter, saving time and helping residents access support more efficiently.

As the number of activities continues to grow, organisations are encouraged to make full use of the feature by ensuring their Moving More listings are up to date and correctly tagged. Doing so provides a quick, simple and effective way for Hertfordshire residents to discover local opportunities that can support healthy ageing, social connection and physical wellbeing.

If you are looking to explore this new feature and discover suitable activities, simply visit the Moving More Activity Finder and use the newly added tag to filter results.
